Leather care

Our collars are made from carefully selected natural leather. It is a natural material that changes over time, gaining character and a beautiful patina of its own. Looked after properly, leather pieces will serve you for many years.

Care routine

• Daily: when you take the collar off, buckle it closed. This helps it keep its shape.
• After wet walks: wipe with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth and let the leather dry naturally at room temperature. Never put it on a radiator or use a hairdryer: fast heat makes leather brittle.
• Every few months: with a soft cloth, work a small amount of colourless leather balm or conditioner into the surface, let it soak in, then buff. If the leather starts to look dry or dull, it is asking for balm sooner.
• Mud and salt: let mud dry, brush it off, then wipe clean. Remove winter road salt the same day with a damp cloth: salt draws the oils out of leather faster than anything else.

What to avoid

• Soaking. Take the collar off before your dog goes into the water. Do not leave leather wet for long.
• Household cleaners, alcohol and wet wipes. They strip the oils and the colour.
• Storing in plastic or in direct sunlight. Leather needs to breathe: a drawer or a hook indoors is the best place.

Brass

Some of our hardware is made from solid brass. Over time it will slowly develop a warm, darker patina: that is the metal ageing, not a defect. If you would like the brass to stay bright, rub it with a soft cloth and a drop of brass polish, keeping the polish off the leather.

Good to know

Leather is a natural material, so small differences in shade, texture or surface are not considered defects. On the contrary, they are a sign of genuine, distinctive natural leather.

With everyday use, friction, sunlight or contact with water, the colour of a piece may also change slightly over time. This is the natural ageing of leather, and it gives every piece its own character.
